Kirsten & Marie are well-known in Denmark for their beautiful polyphonic melodies accompanied by Kirsten's chromatic chord shifts on the nylon string guitar. On "Newspeak" the twins and friends take this to a whole new level that undoubtly has international potential. "Newspeak" is a pop record - and at the same time it is experimental music, new age, sect folk, and radiophonic compositions.

About the album Kirsten says: ”Many of the different sounds on the album arouse by chance. My budgie who I had placed in the recording room began to sing while we recorded one of the songs. It was kind of a relief to hear it sing and then the idea of packing the record with different sounds to accompany the songs came up. Together with the producer Aske Zidore we then started chasing the right sounds to correspond to the melodies. On the album you will hear Strauss mashups, fireworks recorded from the the open window in the studio, and choir song recorded backwards.”

Marie adds: ”Our American friend Makaila Stierlin and a friend of our parents, the writer Erik Kock, have written the lyrics. We actually composed the songs to the lyrics. In a way we work best when composing music to lyrics already written and then playing with the sounds of the different words in the lyrics.”
